Do cycling club websites put people off ?
By underthehill - Monday, 8th February 2010

Just been looking at club sites and the design of quite a few makes it difficult to figure out what they are about and or how to get in touch to find out more.  Thats a pity, as more and more people are looking to take up cycling and find a club.

Often simple things are missing off the home page, like a Contact Us link and proper About Us information.  Its nobodys fault, as most cycling clubs and their websites are looked after by volunteers who have not got time to go into site design.

So, I thought it might be useful to put up a checklist on our blog here http://www.wheelhub.co.uk/Blog/Cycling.cfm.  Hopefully it will help anyone that is looking and involved with a club website.  If its not you, feel free to point someone else in the right direction.

You didn't mention that the website needs to be up to date - is there anything worse than when a website obviously hasn't been updated for three years. By the way, our club website rocks (so modest). www.fareham-wheelers.org.uk

Thanks, will add that to the blog list. When we were doing our club list, we found a few that didn't have any entries for a while and you couldn't tell if they were still active or not. We should probably give a few good examples like yours !
