What is Skyride Local?

Skyride Local rides are small group cycle rides designed to get everyone cycling regularly in a fun and informal way. British Cycling trained ride leaders are on hand to guide participants along the route and provide tips and advice on cycle safety and skills. Don't worry if your bike's been gathering cobwebs in the shed for a while, our ride leaders can carry out quick bike checks for your peace of mind.

Rides vary in levels from beginners to the most confident of riders, offering something for everyone. If you're a bit wobbly on your bike, haven't hopped on the saddle for a while, or simply want a 30-minute leisurely ride, Ride Fun may be the level for you. Ride Leaders take it nice and slow so there is no need to worry you may fall behind.

For the more experienced riders there are two ride levels to choose from Ride Well or Ride Strong. Ranging from 1-2 hours, these rides offer the chance for a more challenging route.. A moderate to frequent level of cycling and fitness is required, but don't despair, these are still all about the fun.....lycra is simply optional!

It's easy to make Skyride Local fun for all the family, just pick a level to suit your skills & enjoyment. It's a great excuse to hang out with friends and family, have fun and meet new people along the way!

Rides are limited to small groups so for 2010 make sure you register your interest now so we can keep you informed of rides in your area. Best of all.......It's absolutely FREE to participate!

When and Where?

Throughout 2009 Skyride Local took place in and around Manchester, Glasgow, Leicester, London and Preston, using over 1,500 sweaty Skyride Local T-Shirts!

We've taken rides to Plum Pudding Lane, endured Lost Villages, taken on the Tamsin Trail and even managed to enjoy a South City Escape!

Skyride Local may have drawn to a close for 2009, but winter is by no means any excuse to get off your bike. Take a look at our Winter Tips for all the advice you'll need in order to continue having fun cycling until we return in the Spring.
